Dubai Introduces Variable Parking Tariff and Salik Pricing to Enhance Traffic Management and Urban Mobility

Dubai is introducing significant updates to its parking and toll systems with a Variable Parking Tariff Policy and Variable Salik Road Toll Pricing. These measures, set to take effect in 2025, aim to manage traffic more effectively, improve parking availability, and support the city’s urban mobility goals.

Key Changes in Parking and Toll Systems

Variable Parking Tariff Policy

The updated parking policy introduces dynamic pricing based on location, demand, and time of use. It is designed to optimize parking availability in high-demand areas and promote better traffic flow during peak hours.

What is Premium Parking?

Premium parking spaces are designated in high-demand locations, such as near metro stations, commercial districts, and shopping hubs. Examples include Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Deira, and Jumeirah. These spaces are priced higher to reflect their convenience and proximity to public transport and popular destinations.

Peak and Off-Peak Hours

The revised parking rates depend on traffic patterns and time of day:

• Peak Hours: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Premium spaces: AED 6/hour
  • Regular spaces: AED 4/hour
• Off-Peak Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Current rates remain unchanged.
• Free Parking: Overnight (10:00 PM – 8:00 AM) and all day on Sundays.

Special Tariffs for Major Events

During major events like conferences, exhibitions, and festivals, parking fees near event venues will be adjusted to AED 25 per hour. These event-specific tariffs, starting in February 2025, aim to manage temporary surges in parking demand and encourage the use of public transport.

Salik Road Toll Pricing

The Salik toll system, Dubai’s electronic road toll system that automatically deducts fees when vehicles pass through designated toll gates, will introduce variable pricing based on peak and off-peak hours starting January 2025.

• Peak Hours: AED 6 per trip (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM)
• Off-Peak Hours: AED 4 per trip (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM – 1:00 AM)
• Toll-Free Hours: 1:00 AM – 6:00 AM daily
• Sunday Rates: AED 4 throughout the day, except during major events or holidays.

These updates aim to encourage off-peak travel and ease congestion during peak hours.
