Four Men Sentenced to Prison, Fined Dh1 Million for Impersonating Police, Kidnapping, and Robbery in Dubai

In a significant ruling, four Pakistani men have been sentenced to two years in prison each and fined a collective Dh1 million for kidnapping and robbing two Indian men after impersonating police officers. The incident, which occurred on March 29, 2023, was within the jurisdiction of Al Rafaa Police Station in Dubai.

The Incident: A Planned Robbery

According to court records, the crime was orchestrated by a Pakistani driver working for the victims, who conspired with three accomplices and a fugitive to carry out the plan. The driver, having knowledge of the victims’ movements and possession of a substantial amount of cash, informed the gang of their location.

On the morning of the crime, while driving the victims to Dubai’s Gold Souk, the driver tipped off the gang, who followed them in a black Kia vehicle. The perpetrators stopped the victims near Al Mankhool, where two of them posed as police officers. The victims were forcibly separated and taken in different vehicles to Al Nahda.

At the secondary location, the gang robbed the victims of Dh1 million, two mobile phones, and two wallets before releasing them.

Quick Action by Authorities

The victims reported the incident immediately, prompting an investigation by Dubai authorities. Police quickly identified and apprehended five suspects, including the driver and a fifth man who was accused of conspiring with the gang but denied involvement.

Court Rulings

During the trial, the Dubai Court relied on confessions from the primary accused, witness testimonies, and police evidence to establish the gang’s involvement. The investigation revealed the driver’s critical role in providing insider information and the participation of two gang members in impersonating police officers to facilitate the robbery.

The fifth accused, also of Pakistani nationality, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Testimonies from the other defendants supported his claims of non-involvement.

Sentencing and Deportation

The court sentenced the four convicted men to two years in prison each, followed by deportation after serving their sentences. Additionally, the gang was collectively fined Dh1 million, equivalent to the amount stolen from the victims.

The verdict underscores Dubai’s commitment to swiftly addressing criminal activities and maintaining public safety.
